This coming September, the Islas Menores Marina will host the 2026 Spanish Regularity Cup for Personal Watercraft, a top‑level event organised jointly by the Royal Spanish Powerboating Federation and the Powerboating Federation of the Region of Murcia, with the support of Cartagena City Council.
A challenge of precision, navigation, and calculation
Unlike pure speed races, the Spanish Regularity Cup stands out for its strategic complexity. In this format, maximum speed does not guarantee victory. Riders, who may compete individually or in pairs, face a challenge where steady pace, open‑water navigation, and precise time calculations for each section are the key factors in claiming the win.
The technical preparation of the course includes a detailed design with several control points (CP) strategically located in key areas, such as CN La Isleta, Isla Perdiguera, CN Lo Pagán, and CN Los Alcázares, with the race finishing back in Islas Menores. Riders will set off in four groups, each with assigned section speeds, starting in random, staggered one‑minute intervals to ensure both safety and competitiveness on the water.
Event schedule
The competition will concentrate all the action into an intense morning session, ensuring a great spectacle for fans and optimal organisation for the crews:
- Arrival of riders at Marina Islas Menores, reception and welcome with traditional hot chocolate and pastries.
- Riders’ briefing to review navigation instructions and sea conditions.
- Launching of personal watercraft and preparation in the starting area.
- Official start of the timed race.
- End of the competition on the water.
- Lunch and catering at Islas Menores Marina for all participants.
The event promises to be one of the standout powerboating occasions of the year on the Mar Menor, combining sporting demand with a friendly social gathering to round off the season among colleagues and friends from across the sector.
